Chief Executive Evelyn Collins is to receive an honorary degree from the University of Ulster.

Inspiring Excellence: Honorary Degree for Equality Commission Chief Executive

The University of Ulster has named the Chief Executive of the Equality Commission, Evelyn Collins, CBE, as one of 13 inspirational personalities to be honoured at its summer graduations this year.

Vice Chancellor Professor Richard Barnett said that the award of Doctor of Laws (LLD) to Ms Collins was in recognition of the inspirational achievements and outstanding contribution to the promotion of equality and good relations.

He added: “The honorary degree recipients this year embody the very qualities that I know will inspire Ulster’s students to aim high and realise the power they have to make a positive difference in their future lives and careers.”

Evelyn Collins CBE, Chief Executive of the Equality Commission for Northern Ireland, said: “I am very pleased and truly honoured to be considered by the University of Ulster for this honorary degree of Doctor of Laws (LLD).  It is public recognition of the important work both the Equality Commission and its predecessor bodies has undertaken on equality and good relations in Northern Ireland.  I have always considered it a privilege to be working on these issues which are so central to making progress in our society.” 

The University of Ulster has released the names of all 13 personalities from the worlds of sport, the arts, public life, business and education who will receive the honorary degrees this year.
