Bi-centenary of the Abolition of Slavery

25 March 2007 marks the bicentenary of the abolition of slavery. On this day 200 years ago Parliament passed a bill which abolished the transatlantic slave trade throughout the British Empire. The bicentenary is an important date in history because it marks the end of official support for human trafficking and slavery. Many commentators suggest that modern day racism, exploitation and people trafficking have their roots at least in part, in the transatlantic slave trade. The following links provide further information and learning resources on the transatlantic slave trade as well as racism and exploitation in modern society.
