Developing Indicators of Equality of Opportunity and Good Relations in Education

In 2010 we published ´Indicators of Equality of Opportunity and Good Relations in Education´, a research project which aimed to develop a framework of indicators and associated measures of equality of opportunity and good relations in education for each of the three overarching goals specified in 'Every Child an Equal Child' (pdf, 2008):

  1. Every child has equality of access to a quality educational experience
  2. Every child is given the opportunity to reach his or her full potential
  3. The ethos of every school promotes the inclusion and participation of all children.

The researchers, the Equality Company, developed an Outline Indicator Framework following consideration of literature, data and stakeholder input. The researchers then engaged with stakeholders to seek their views on the proposed framework. The full report presents the framework along with the associated rationale for the choice of indicators, derived from key literature, data and stakeholder engagement.
