Racism and inequality in any form is unacceptable

Racism and inequality in any form is unacceptable
05/06/2020
Statement from the Equality Commission NI

Geraldine McGahey, Chief Commissioner of the Equality Commission said:

“The outpouring of shock and condemnation about the death of George Floyd is right and proper. It has highlighted and reinforced the racial inequality, discrimination & prejudices that Black and Minority Ethnic communities encounter.

“Racism and inequality in any form is unacceptable in any society including here in Northern Ireland. There needs to be high level commitment from Government to tackle race inequality across all aspects of life here.

“We support people in their right to protest and demonstrate showing solidarity and support for their fellow human beings. However, in the face of this pandemic it is important to respect and follow the emergency public health legislation that is designed to save lives.”
