Equality Commission partnership events this summer.
East Side Arts Festival: Jade City
Date: Sunday 5 August at 2:45pm
Location: City of Belfast Boxing Academy, Beechfield Street, Belfast
We will be in East Belfast as part of the EastSide Arts Festival, partnering with EastSide Arts to support a drama, ‘Jade City’, a new show exploring the dark, toxic and tumultuous friendship of two lads in East Belfast.
Our Chief Commissioner, Dr Michael Wardlow, will be hosting a discussion session on equality issues raised during the performance and facing many people in our community. Michael Wardlow said: “I’m looking forward to this event in my local area! East Belfast is a vibrant part of the city, and we want to hear from local people on equality issues facing their community and to discuss how the Commission can help to address these”.
Féile an Phobail: What every woman wants - equality!
Date: Wednesday 8th August; 10:30am-12noon (followed by lunch)
Location: An Chultúrlann, Falls Road, Belfast
The Equality Commission presents a panel discussion focusing on gender equality issues. The event is organised in conjunction with Falls Women's Centre and will explore equality issues facing women everyday including childcare, flexible working, sexual harassment, pregnancy/maternity discrimination and the concentration of women in low-paid part-time work.
Contributors will include Chair Yvette Shapiro and panelists Amanda Ferguson (journalist), Carmel McKinney (NIFRS), Alison Millar (NIPSA), Adrienne Peltz (Commentator).
