Outside CourtIn 2015, Belfast County Court ruled that the refusal of the Christian-owned bakery to make a cake iced with the slogan ‘Support Gay Marriage’ was discriminatory and a subsequent hearing at the Royal Court of Appeal was rejected.

In 2018, the Supreme Court overturned the findings of Belfast County Court and the Northern Ireland Court of Appeal.

15 August 2019 - Gareth Lee instructed human rights solicitors Phoenix Law and Ciaran Moynagh of that company to make an application to the European Court of Human Rights. The Equality Commission for Northern Ireland had no remit to assist Mr Lee to make his application.
