The knowledge management team makes the best possible use of the Commission´s unique body of information and knowledge to inform not only our own work but for the use of anyone with an interest in equality in education.

Case Decisions and Settlements

Every year our legal team receives complaints of discrimination in the field of education.  The majority are made under the Special Educational Needs and Disability (NI) Order (SENDO) which came into operation in 2005, but there are also complaints across all the other grounds, especially disability, race and religious or political belief and employment cases against education bodies.

Decisions are findings of fact by the tribunals or county courts.  Settlements are resolved by mutual agreement before the case goes to court. We publish outlines of all cases resolved each year. These are available in our cases decisions and settlements database
