Equality Commission press release

‘No Matter What’ the Equality Commission Promotes Rights After Brexit at Belfast Pride 2023

The Equality Commission is proud to support Belfast Pride 2023.

Speaking about Belfast Pride 2023, Chief Commissioner, Geraldine McGahey said: “We look forward to Belfast Pride every year, it is our annual reminder to take time to take stock and celebrate just how far we have come in Northern Ireland with our friends, family and colleagues in the LGBTQIA+ community.

“It is also a dedicated time for us all to celebrate the increasing diversity of our society and to promote and protect the rights that this community have fought so hard to achieve.

“This year we will be supporting the Pride celebrations with our ‘No Matter What’ campaign, to raise awareness of the work the Commission is doing to protect your rights after Brexit. If you feel as a LGBTQIA+ person that any of your rights or protections in law have been reduced or lost because of Brexit, please contact us for free and confidential advice.”

“Pride is important, so I want to encourage you all to make the effort to get out and celebrate Pride with our friends, family and colleagues in the LGBTQIA+ community. I hope to see many of you at the Pride Awards and at Pride Village. Let’s show our LGBTQIA+ community just how proud of them we are.” concluded Ms McGahey.
